This MY1016ZL/ZD101AZ1 motor is a 24V 250W geared permanent-magnet DC motor specifically optimized for electric wheelchair propulsion and similar mobility devices. It includes an integral gear reduction that dramatically lowers the output speed to about 120 RPM while multiplying the torque output. The result is a motor capable of moving a heavy wheelchair (with a rider) at a modest top speed (a few km/h) but with excellent hill-climbing and starting torque. At 250 W output, the motor’s gearbox yields roughly 20 N·m of torque at the output shaft (over 200 kg·cm), which allows it to easily overcome ramps, carpet, and other high-friction situations typical in wheelchair use. Peak torque (starting from a stop) can be much higher, often exceeding 80–100 N·m for short bursts, ensuring the wheelchair can start moving even under a heavy load. 

Operating from a 24 V battery system, this motor typically draws around 14–15 A under normal load. Its no-load current is about 4 A (reflecting the effort to spin the gearbox with no external load). Efficiency is moderate (~70–76%) given the losses in the gear reduction and lower speed operation. The motor is built for continuous duty – it has a fan-cooled or well-ventilated design and uses quality brushes and windings with Class E insulation to withstand extended run times without overheating. 

A key feature of the MY1016ZL/ZR wheelchair motor is the heavy-duty output shaft: 17 mm diameter and about 46 mm long, with a keyway or spline to securely attach wheel hubs. This thick shaft can directly support the drive wheel of a wheelchair or a sprocket for chain drive to a larger wheel. The motor usually comes with a mounting flange and bolt holes to attach it to the wheelchair frame. The ZL and ZR (or ZD101AZ1) denote left and right orientation – one’s gearbox is mirrored so that one motor fits on the left side of the wheelchair and the other on the right, ensuring both outputs spin forward when energized identically. Typically, these motors also include an electromagnetic parking brake (24 V brake coil) on the back end. In practical terms, when used in a wheelchair, a pair of these motors (left and right) allow for differential drive steering. They are often controlled by a joystick-operated motor controller that can independently modulate each motor’s speed. The geared motors produce a slight audible hum and gear noise but are very robust – they can run over door thresholds and up van ramps repeatedly. Aside from wheelchairs, these motors find use in robotics (e.g., large mobile robots or combat robots) and in DIY projects like motorized carts or dollies, where low-speed high-torque drive is needed.
